Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Marco C. Meier

IT is not a cost factor but a tool for optimizing a company's business processes and for reducing its costs. At the top level, managers do need a solid understanding of the effects and opportunities of IT on important issues like growth, mergers, restructions and innovations. Therefore in this learning unit, participants acquire first a basical knowledge about business related technologies and actual developments in the IT sector. These are for example Internet-, Network-, Telecommunications- and Computer Systems. Consequentely, the focus is based on the importance of IT for increasing the enterprise value: The effectiveness and efficiency of the company. Participants learn inter alia, how to develop IT strategy out of corporate strategy and how to integrate IT planning in corporate planning such as how to lower costs without reducing the benefit. The final part of the module is the management of IT security.
